Which foam materials can be processed with a CNC Hot-Wire foam cutter?
CNC hot-wire cutting machines are designed to process materials that vaporize under heat. This includes Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), Extruded Polystyrene (XPS), and some formulations of Polyethylene (PE) foams. They are not recommended for Polyurethane (PUR) or Polyisocyanurate (PIR) foams, as these materials do not melt cleanly and can release hazardous gases. For polyurethane, mechanical oscillating blades or CNC routers are the industry-standard choice.
How is wire temperature and cutting speed coordinated in automated CNC cutting?
Our CNC control software links the feed rate (cutting speed) with the output voltage to the hot wire.
